My Local TV Extends Reach with QVGA Channel
Sprint TV's channel 58 brings local news to QVGA handsets
RALEIGH, N.C., (February 19, 2007) -- News Over Wireless today announced that its My Local TV video channel, channel 58 on Sprint TV, is now available on QVGA handsets.
My Local TV provides viewers with the latest local news, sports, weather, and information in full-motion video while on the go – anytime, anywhere. This service extension brings high-quality video to handsets offering the best possible viewing experience.
My Local TV has been available on select Sprint Power Vision handsets since May 2006. The addition of QVGA service means users with these high-resolution handsets are now able to access local news video that is optimized for their screen. It also allows smart phones, such as the Palm Treo 700P, to access My Local TV. Other Sprint QVGA handsets include the Sanyo M1 and the Samsung SPH-M610.
"With My Local TV on QVGA devices we are delivering the best video quality from local TV stations to viewers across the country," said Sam Matheny, general manager of News Over Wireless. "We launched the first video-enabled Java application for local news and followed with the first video channel."
"This latest offering demonstrates our continued commitment to providing leading-edge technology for all of our station and carrier partners, and highlights the scalability of our system," Matheny said. "We continue to improve our services to match wireless handset and network development."
To subscribe on your Sprint Power Vision phone, navigate to Sprint TV's channel listing in the Media Player, select the News & Weather section and choose channel 58 – My Local TV. The service costs $4.95 monthly for unlimited access to the channel
